This is a beautiful milestone for both communities - it is more than just a performance; it is a proud celebration of friendship and unity between Bangladesh and Greece, right here in Acharnes, Athens .
The women’s association Lyceum Club of Greek Women was founded in Greece in 1911 by the pioneer of the Greek feminist movement, Kallirroe Siganou Parren. With the aim of preserving and promoting Greek cultural heritage, and with a strong commitment to the right to education and employment, the organization is founded on volunteerism and actively contributes to both social action and cultural development.
Today, it has 56 branches throughout Greece and 18 offices abroad.
The Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Acharnes branch was founded in 1978 by Nitsa Varela and since then has become one of the most important cultural and social institutions in the city of Acharnes. With consistency and dedication, it serves the same high ideals and statutory purposes of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women, contributing substantially to the preservation and promotion of Greek traditions, customs, and cultural heritage. With core values centered on safeguarding our cultural identity, promoting gender equality, encouraging volunteerism and social solidarity, and supporting mothers and children, the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Acharnes has developed multidimensional activities with a strong cultural and social impact. Through its initiatives and events, it cultivates collective memory, strengthens community bonds, and passes on to younger generations a deep appreciation for Greek tradition and culture.
The branch offers traditional dance classes for children, teenagers, and adults, providing people of all ages with the opportunity to experience the richness of Greek folk dance and music traditions. In addition, it operates a children’s choir, an adult choir, and a handicrafts department, where traditional techniques and creative artistic activities are preserved and promoted.
Particularly important is the presence of the traditional dance performance group, which proudly represents the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Acharnes at festivals, cultural events, and exchange programs both in Greece and abroad. Through its performances, the group promotes Greek cultural identity, conveying the vitality, music, and traditions of Greece beyond its borders.
With unwavering dedication to the values of contribution, creativity, and cultural continuity, the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Acharnes continues today to serve as a vibrant center of culture, education, and social contribution for the city and its residents.
We are especially proud to host the lykeion ton Ellinidon Acharnon as our official special guest. Actively preserving and teaching local traditions since 1978, they are the perfect group to represent the rich history of Greece on our stage.
